Welcome to Hairy Tales Petfood, a New Zealand-based manufacturer of premium freeze-dried pet treats. Our goal is simple: provide the purest, most honest pet nutrition using some of the finest ingredients New Zealand has to offer.
Our company, based in the picturesque Darfield, Canterbury, at the foot of the stunning Canterbury Plains in New Zealand, was started by pet lovers who believe that pets deserve the very best: real pet food made with real ingredients. Our mission is simple: provide pure pet nutrition with integrity and honesty using the finest ingredients New Zealand has to offer.
Our pet treats are based on the single-ingredient principle: you know exactly what you are putting into your pet's bowl. Our pet treats contain no preservatives, grains, fillers, or artificial additives. Only the purest meat, naturally preserved for the highest quality pet treats.
Here at Hairy Tales, we believe that pet nutrition is more than just providing the basics for your pet. Feeding your pet is a demonstration of love, trust, and friendship.

Produced in a Human Food-Grade Facility
All of our Hairy Tales products are manufactured in our MPI-registered plant in Darfield, New Zealand (Registration No. PH487/01).
Our plant is based on a Risk Management Programme (RMP) using HACCP principles for safe food production, the same principles used in the human food industry. This gives us the highest level of hygiene, quality, and traceability in the pet food industry.
We source all of our ingredients from reliable New Zealand farms and produce all of our products in a controlled environment for the highest level of safety and quality.

Why Freeze-Dried?
At Hairy Tales, we think that the best treats begin with the best ingredients... and the best way to preserve them.
Freeze-drying is a gentle drying process that removes moisture from the ingredient while preserving the natural nutrients found in the ingredient. Unlike other drying methods that use heat to dry the ingredient, freeze-drying preserves the natural taste, texture, and nutrients of the ingredient.
This process enables us to provide our treats with up to 98% natural nutrients such as proteins, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. This results in a lightweight treat that is rich in nutrients.
Our freeze-dried treats are made from 100% New Zealand ingredients. We follow our philosophy of a single ingredient... which means no preservatives, no grains, no fillers, and no artificial additives.

At Hairy Tales Petfood, our commitment to our beloved pets goes beyond our pet food. We are excited to announce that we have had the privilege of working with four outstanding animal rescue organizations throughout New Zealand in 2025. Our commitment to these charity organizations is to give back to our community and to these outstanding animal rescue organizations for all the incredible work that they do to help those pets who need our help most.
Māmā Mini's
We are honored to announce that we have had the privilege of working with Māmā Mini's, an animal rescue organization dedicated to helping small dogs and puppies who need our help most. They provide rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming services. We were honored to be able to donate our treats to these little fur babies to bring some joy into their lives during their rehabilitation time.
Dog Watch
Dog Watch is an animal rescue organization that works hand in hand with our communities to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome our canine friends who need our help most. We were honored to be able to donate our products to these organizations to help with the training phase of these rescue dogs.
Pound Paws Rescue
Pound Paws Rescue is an animal rescue organization dedicated to giving second chances to those pound dogs who need our help most. We were honored to be able to donate our nutritious freeze-dried treats to these dogs during their transition into their forever homes.
Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue
This organization is committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of bull breed dogs. Our donation has helped in providing the dogs with rewards for their rehabilitation, helping those hairy friends find loving families.
